Chicago Walk4Friendship
On Sunday, September 25th 2011, the community at large will join teen volunteers, children with special needs and their families will be attending the third annual Walk4Friendship. The event is sponsored by The Friendship Circle of Illinois, a non-profit organization which provides programming for children and young adults with special needs throughout the Chicagoland area.
Teens organize a community walk to promote their mentoring and building friendships with children with special needs.
The Walk4Friendship promotes inclusion and raises awareness for special needs individuals in our community. This fun-filled event is attended by a broad cross-section of people who come together to demonstrate their solidarity and support. The ceremony will begin with greetings from elected officials.
The event begins at 12:00 PM at Wood Oaks Park (1150 Sanders Road) in Northbrook. A variety of family oriented activities, great Kosher Pizza and entertainment until 3:00 PM. This year’s entertainment features a Drum Circle with John Yost. Each participant will be given and instrument to share in a unified rhythmical and a musical experience. There will also be a music performance by local music artists including Glenbrook North senior Mitchell Green.
Dominick’s has partnered with Friendship Circle to promote health and nutrition programs for children with special needs. As result of the success of our programs, Dominick’s will be presenting a check to The Friendship Circle at the walk’s opening ceremony at 1:000pm.

The Friendship Circle, a non-profit organization founded in 2006, has a refreshing approach to helping families of children with special needs. Teen volunteers bring the spirit of true friendship and unconditional acceptance to the children who participate in recreational, Judaic, social and educational programs.
The funds raised from this walk will help expand the services and activities that The Friendship Circle offers to families throughout the area. Participants form teams for the walk via the official web site, www.ILWalk.com, which can be used by individuals to promote their own team and to track their progress as well make donations and register for the event.
